It is fundamental to the ethos of the Global Concerns Trust that everyone involved with the organisation will have the highest standards of ethical behaviour in their dealings with each other and with all those vulnerable people with whom they come into contact through their work. This is true for Trustees, contractors and volunteers who work directly for GCT, and also for all those partner organisations in Scotland and abroad with whom we work to achieve our goal of reducing poverty and empowering vulnerable people.
The Global Concerns Trust takes seriously its safeguarding responsibilities to ensure that its Trustees, volunteers, partners, operations and programmes do no harm to children, young people and vulnerable adults (together referred to as “vulnerable people”), and that they do not expose them to the risk of abuse or discrimination.
This policy applies to all Trustees, contractors and volunteers of The Global Concerns Trust.
GCT will ensure that the safeguarding procedures of the partners with whom we work in the United Kingdom and overseas are consistent and in line with the principles and approaches set out in this policy.
The Global Concerns Trust has zero tolerance against the abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people, and considers that everyone has an equal right to protection from abuse and exploitation regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or having a child, gender reassignment, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin, property, disability, birth or other status.
All forms of abuse and discrimination are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It is recognised that abuse can take the form of physical, psychological, financial or sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial or other exploitation, resulting in actual or potential harm to the health, survival, development or dignity of a vulnerable person. It is recognised that discriminatory abuse is motivated by a person’s age, race, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, disability or other personal characteristic.
All Trustees, contractors and volunteers of The Global Concerns Trust will strive to promote a zero tolerance approach to discrimination, sexual harassment and abuse in all working environments.
All people working with GCT will not sexually, physically or emotionally harass, assault or abuse another person, condone or participate in such behaviour, or develop relationships with vulnerable people which could in any way be deemed to be sexual, exploitative or abusive.
All people working with GCT have a responsibility to immediately report any concerns they may have about the welfare of a vulnerable person to the Board of Trustees. Concerns can be reported via the ‘contact’ page of our website.
It is a requirement of our partnership with organisations overseas that all Trustees, employees, contractors, volunteers and project beneficiaries are informed of GCT’s safeguarding policies and the procedure for raising a concern or complaint to the Designated Safeguarding Officer or the Board of Trustees.
All reports of abuse or potential abuse will be recorded, monitored, and dealt with in a serious and effective manner. Any breach of this policy may result in immediate termination of contract or partnership and reporting to the police, relevant regulatory authority or other body.
